The Matilija Barn

This project began with an invitation from neighbors. They had the beginnings of a backyard farm, and wanted an image to remind them of spring, even in the cold winter months.

The barn was my first commissioned mural. It stretched the way I made material choices, as weather and the daily outdoor habits of an active family (plus animals) became primary considerations. And these new environmental factors brought me closer to my subject. The composition and process itself needed to reflect the resilience of these poppies and pollinators.
